Scanning tips
Get closer
Fill more of the frame with the printed codes, and hold the phone steady so the print stays sharp.
Change the angle
On glossy or curved packaging, tilting the phone slightly can move a reflection off the code.
Use the flashlight
In dim light, tap the flashlight button on the camera screen. If it causes glare, turn it off and use room light instead.
Take another photo
You don't need one perfect shot. Tap Add More Photos and every new photo feeds the same batch.
What to expect
- Duplicates merge. The same code seen in several photos becomes one entry.
- Near matches stay separate. Two real codes can differ by a single character, so codes that differ by one character are never merged automatically. The app asks you to decide.
- Uncertain characters are flagged. You'll see a close-up from your photo beside the code so you can check it.
- Look-alike characters. When a character could reasonably be read two ways, such as 2 and Z, the app may give you more than one version to try, best guess first. Marking a version rejected moves you on to the next one.
- Repeat warnings. If a code you already marked accepted comes up again, the app warns you, even if its batch was deleted. You can still enter it.
- Generic scanning finds extra text. The built-in Generic Alphanumeric Code profile looks for codes of 6 to 24 letters and numbers, so it can also pick up things like addresses, phone numbers and lot codes. Mark those as not a code during review.
Photos and storage
Photos are stored on your phone in the app's private storage. The Settings screen shows how much space they use. To free space:
- long-press a batch on the home screen, or tap Delete Batch at the bottom of a batch, to delete it; or
- tap Delete source photos on the Batch complete screen to delete the photos but keep the codes and their outcomes.
See the privacy policy for exactly what is stored and what leaves your device.
